Who it may help
For selected chronic pain carried by specific nerves, often after helpful diagnostic blocks.
What happens
A carefully positioned probe uses radiofrequency energy to heat a targeted nerve area and interrupt pain signals. It does not remove arthritis or repair the underlying joint.
After the procedure
Soreness may occur before benefit develops. Relief can last months but is not permanent for everyone; nerves can recover. Activity and follow-up instructions are individualized.
Risks & limitations
Risks include pain flare, numbness, bleeding, infection, burns and nerve injury. A successful diagnostic block does not guarantee successful ablation.
Before any procedure
Tell your team about all medications and supplements, blood thinners, allergies, diabetes, possible pregnancy and any infection. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own. Follow the specific instructions you receive about food, drink, transportation and activity.
