Who it may help
For selected neck pain that travels into the shoulder or arm from an irritated nerve.
What happens
Medication is delivered to the epidural space in the neck with image guidance. The approach and medication are selected after reviewing your symptoms, examination and imaging.
After the procedure
Some people improve after several days; others do not benefit. Any repeat treatment is individualized. Follow the team's instructions about rest, driving and follow-up.
Risks & limitations
Risks include infection, bleeding, headache and temporary pain or blood-sugar changes. Rare but serious complications include spinal cord injury, stroke or paralysis. Discuss these risks and alternatives before treatment.
Before any procedure
Tell your team about all medications and supplements, blood thinners, allergies, diabetes, possible pregnancy and any infection. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own. Follow the specific instructions you receive about food, drink, transportation and activity.
