Who it may help
For selected causes of lower-back and leg pain related to irritated spinal nerves.
What happens
Anti-inflammatory medication is placed around the spinal nerves through an opening near the base of the spine. Imaging helps guide placement. This treats inflammation; it does not repair a damaged disc.
After the procedure
You are observed afterward and receive personal instructions about activity and driving. Relief may take several days and may be temporary. Further injections depend on your response, not an automatic schedule.
Risks & limitations
Possible effects include soreness, temporary numbness and raised blood sugar. Bleeding, infection, spinal headache and rare serious nerve injury are possible.
Before any procedure
Tell your team about all medications and supplements, blood thinners, allergies, diabetes, possible pregnancy and any infection. Do not stop prescribed medicines on your own. Follow the specific instructions you receive about food, drink, transportation and activity.
